Don't Put Bertie On The Stage

from Cloudcatcher by Kevin Blight

/

about

A song mocking people who think it a better thing to kill than to love....biting satire in a 1930's style. Originally I was going to make it sound like an old radio, but changed my mind at the last minute...

lyrics

Don't put Bertie on the stage
For fear he'll turn out 'strange'
If you want Grandchildren don't put Bertie on the Stage

Put him in the Army if you can
To kill people in foreign lands
You can be sure there's nothing more to make the boy a man
He could join the Royal Air Force
But not the Navy, for of course
It has the reputation I have heard
For getting seamen out of boys, so....

Don't put Bertie on the stage
For fear he'll turn out 'strange'
If you want Grandchildren don't put Bertie on the Stage
